Hello and welcome to The Savory Spoonful. I am a Midwestern mom/step mom/wife/freelance graphic designer/amateur photographer/food lover, who loves to cook.

I found that in this economy, I have more time to cook than I ever expected I would. This site is mostly about my experiences learning how to make a good pot of soup. And I do mean pot. I like to share, so most of my recipes will make enough soup to feed an army. Hope you have a freezer!

A few years ago, my love of food was pretty obvious by looking at me. I had managed to pack on the pounds and wasn’t proud of it. I tried a lot of ways to lose weight and didn’t have any luck; my heart really wasn’t in it. Then, when I found myself with too much time on my hands, I decided to focus on becoming healthy and fit. I joined Weight Watchers and dove in with a vengeance.  I lost almost 40 lbs in 6 months and felt great. I still feel great, although I must admit some of those 40 lbs have crept back on.

I lost the weight by making soup a huge part of my diet. I found that it was a great way to feel full without feeling deprived. I would spend hours revamping recipes to get the points down. I learned lots of tips and tricks which I would like to share with you. Check out the Weight Watchers Tips section. I also include the nutritional information for all of my recipes, so you can do the points thing.

In more recent years, I have experimented and played and now I want to share. Now that I am oh-so-close to turning 50, I have the audacity to think I might have some wisdom to pass on…

I would just like to state that I try to focus on healthy soups, but you will find some recipes that go over to the dark side. It’s good to be bad once in a while. I like to say if you can’t be good, be good at it. I’ll leave it at that for now.

Thank you for stopping by, please do it often and let me know what you think. Comments are good. They help me grow…To leave me a comment scroll all the way to the bottom of this page!
